Abstract

Semiotics, as an emerging science, was introduced to assist readers in exploring texts and uncovering hidden meanings within their underlying layers. Intertextuality is one of the semiotic codes that poets utilize to express their mental constructs through intricate layers of vocabulary and intertextual structures. Muhammad Hilmi Risha (1985), a symbolist poet of Palestinian resistance poetry, does not lack Qur'anic signifiers in his poetic lexicon of resistance; he adorns his poetry with Qur'anic symbols to challenge the audience's mind. This study aims to decode the Qur'anic intertextuality in Risha's poetry through a descriptive-analytical approach based on semiotic principles, revealing the hidden meanings behind this borrowing from Qur'anic verses. The findings indicate that the poet sometimes explicitly uses Qur'anic verses and at other times employs them in a more implicit manner to convey his own themes; additionally, he challenges the audience's mind through paradoxical borrowings from Qur'anic concepts, intensifying their cognitive engagement with his poetic insights. Moreover, he creates new meanings from these Qur'anic borrowings.

Abstract [
